Twelvetide 12 – Firstborn of every creature

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. (Colossians 1:15)

There is a sense in which Jesus is the perfect version of every human who has ever lived. Whether we are those who have received the love of God in our hearts, or not, the fact still remains that He is the ‘firstborn’. Not all are chosen, therefore for many this means nothing; they wilfully remain dead in trespasses and sins and will never seek or desire to know the ‘firstborn’, the one who is about as far from the world’s depiction of Him as it is possible to get. Indeed, the world has its Jesus, its Christmas card version, its movie version, its long-haired, hippy version and 101 other blasphemous versions which are counterfeit and of no help to the souls of men and women across the globe, who desperately need the real Jesus.

If we seek the real Jesus, we will find Him and will be found in Him, disowning our selves and living in Him. Is He the ‘firstborn’ of you, dear soul? If He is not, He must be, for if you end up settling for a counterfeit Jesus you will find out in the end that it was nothing but a devil in disguise. If we do not have the real Jesus, we have nothing, and still are trapped in an ever-increasing mountain of sins which will characterise us everlastingly. We must have that ‘firstborn’, friend, for then you are ready to die and be born again. I would rather lose myself and find myself in Him, than hold on to myself and lose my soul without Him. He was ever begotten by the Father, and yet He miraculously contracted Himself in time, to be your firstborn, for you are dead. Will you seek Him today?
